A note from the Webmeister

The year was 2007. The month was June. We drove our Z4M on Route 66 from Chicago to LA. We were joined by seven other roadsters. We had two pesky Porsches and six Zs, evenly split twixt 3s and 4s. (See www.RovingRoadsters.com )

Once we broke out into the open roads of Missouri and beyond we were able to get up to speed and set our cruz controls for relatively long periods of time. We were all using FRS/GMRS radios and I would announce that my cruz control was set at 75 mph. The BMW drivers did not complain but the two drivers of the Pesky Porsches complained that we were only doing 70 mph. We then looked at our GPSs and noted that the Porsche drivers were right. It zeems that Z3 and Z4 speedometers on cars all built in different years all read about 6% under at all speeds. We became a little obsessive about it from time to time.

Chatting with other BMW drivers at BMW CCA meetings it becomes obvious that this a BMW feature.

Check your speedometer.

I'm guessing that BMW drivers get fewer tickets because of this feature.
